If you have a toenail fungus, it’s fairly common. However, when you have one you may feel very embarrassed or as if you’re the only one suffering from it. If you have it, you can think of it as having athlete’s foot because it is a fungus as well. The difference between the two is that toenail fungus grows under your nails. Athlete’s foot grows on the bottom of your feet and between your toes.

There are things that may cause you to be more susceptible to toenail fungus.

  • Older people
  • Individuals with weakened immune systems
  • Males
  • People with ongoing health issues such as diabetes

Avoid Getting Toenail Fungus

Fungus loves to grow in wet and warm places. Keep your feet clean and dry this summer by offering them lots of warm, dry air. Avoid going to places barefoot like gym showers, locker rooms and swimming pools. Have a pair of shoes you can easily slip on and off when you enter these areas. In addition, keep your toenails trimmed short. This will help so buildup does not accumulate under them. Use antifungal sprays or powders in your socks or shoes to control the sweat and moisture that can cause a fungal infection.

Toenail fungus is uncomfortable and difficult to treat if left unnoticed or untreated for long periods of time. If you think you have toenail fungus, contact Medical Dermatology Specialists today. We offer the most effective treatment to keep your nails healthy for all of your summer fun activities you have planned.

Our Patient Reviews

Dr. Weisman was very professional, friendly, and engaged in conversation with terminology I would understand. Her beside manner was, quite frankly, surprising! It was one of the most comfortable visits I've ever experienced with a doctor.

Dr. Weisman is a great doctor! She was very informative and personally! Her staff were very welcoming as well I'm glad I found her because she is the only doctor who truly explained what was going with me.
Waquele H.
I truly cannot express how thankful I am for this practice. I have been treated with kindness and immense care by every staff member I have encountered here. The nurses and assistants are beyond attentive and genuinely care for the patient. I have just received a treatment plan from Dr. Laura Biehl, and even if this particular treatment plan doesn't provide me relief, I am confident that Dr. Biehl will work to figure out a solution. She is extremely knowledgeable, listens to patient concerns, and takes time to answer patient questions. Dr. Biehl, and this practice are true gems. If you have any dermatological issues this practice is absolutely the best of the best.
