Actinic keratoses develops over many years of sun exposure and shows up on the skin as a scaly patch. It is most commonly found on the face, ears, lips, neck, arms, hands, and scalp, as these are all areas that receive the most sun exposure. Actinic keratoses shows up on an area and then slowly enlarges over years. These areas are often referred to as “sun spots,” though they are different from the darkened spots that can also appear on the face. Many people feel very self-conscious about these scaly skin patches and wish to have them treated. Dr. Weisman at Medical Dermatology Specialists specializes in the treatment of actinic keratosis and offers her patients an individualized treatment plan.
Actinic keratoses is often an early form of skin cancer; therefore it should not be ignored. At Medical Dermatology Specialists, we take all of your skin issues carefully, and we are dedicated to the treatment of actinic keratoses. Dr. Jamie Weisman gives all of her patients a customized and comprehensive approach to skin care, and she can properly diagnose symptoms of actinic keratoses. These pre-cancerous lesions can often be removed as a part of treatment. There are different levels of actinic keratoses, therefore, some spots may be treated with a prescription cream, chemical peel, liquid nitrogen application or other advanced treatment techniques.
Limiting sun exposure and wearing sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher any time you are out in the sun is recommended for everyone, especially those with fair skin. Because actinic keratoses is a condition that can be affected by the skin’s pigment, special care needs to be taken to protect the skin. At Medical Dermatology Specialists, we are dedicated to the health of your skin. Call our office to set up an appointment with our skin care experts to receive personalized and advanced actinic keratoses skin care.
